Breaking the Silence: Beyond Speech Disorders

Introduction: I live with a speech disorder, often expressed through stammering and stuttering. This condition is linked to my mental health, but it does not define my intelligence, creativity, or capability.

Misconception: Too often, people assume that difficulty in speaking means a lack of knowledge or skill. They equate fluency in English with competence, forgetting that language is only one tool of expression not the measure of human worth.

The Reality: A person’s ability should be judged by their ideas, their work, and their values. If excellence were determined solely by flawless speech, then countless thinkers, writers, and innovators would be unfairly dismissed. True capability lies in thought, effort, and resilience.

My Perspective: Stammering is not a weakness; it is a part of my journey. It reminds me that communication is about connection, not perfection. Every pause, every repetition, carries the weight of persistence.  Conclusion  It is time to challenge the stereotype that fluent English equals intelligence. Knowledge is not bound by language. Skills are not diminished by speech disorders. And human dignity is never defined by how smoothly one speaks.
